I, on behalf of the entire staff of the Department of Distance Education, Punjabi University, Patiala, congratulate you on seeking admission to the Department and extend you a warm welcome. Educationists believe that distance education will prove to be the most popular system in the 21st century. In the conventional system, much emphasis is laid on class-room teaching, whereas in the distance education system, emphasis is on learning. A student who has opted for distance education system plays an active role by studying and learning by himself. The department extends every possible help to the students during this process of self-learning. The student is constantly made to practise self-learning and self-expression.
For your convenience, reading material related to your course will be sent to you in instalments. The first instalment will be sent immediately after admission. Reading material is prepared by subject experts. Qualified teachers in every subject are ever-ready to help students in every possible way.
Good people continuously work to establish good traditions. The University has embarked under the dynamic leadership of our Vice-Chancellor Sardar Jaspal Singh on an innovative programme of 'reaching the unreachable' and is making all efforts to help the underprivileged youngsters from rural areas to weave and achieve their dreams.
An effort is made to make this distant interaction more personal by organising Personal Contact Programmes at regular intervals. The department has extended the facility of interaction through telephones also. You can directly get in touch with your teachers on phone. You can also meet your teachers on any working day from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The department has Study Centres located at Bathinda, Barnala, Faridkot, Bardwal (Dhuri), Sri Anandpur Sahib and Ahmedabad (Gujrat). You can use the facilities available at these centres.
Once again extending a hearty welcome to you, I wish you all success and ensure you that the department will make all out efforts to help you in achieving your goal. Let the heights be yours.
Dr. Balbir Singh
